My Friday Fives (And Then Some)

I was lucky enough to be interviewed by the lovely people over at Influenster and asked to share my “Friday Fives” or my top five beauty and health products, which you can check out here. In trying to select my favorite items for the interview I realized I had a few more than five that I am loving and wanted to share, so here are my five faves (and then some)!

Rodan + Fields Soothe Gentle Cream Wash

First of all, I do not wear a lot of makeup so most of the products I am discussing are for improving and maintaining healthy skin. I am 22, so now is the time where protecting my skin from aging and sun damage is really important. The first product I discussed with Influenster is the Rodan + Fields SOOTHE cream that I use every single morning and night. I have very sensitive skin that is prone to redness, so this product is perfect for that. If you have oily skin like me, you can use it with water like a regular cleanser. If you have dry skin, you use it without water, apply it like a cream and wipe it off with a cotton ball or cleansing wipe. It can be a bit pricey, but a little goes a long way. I have a 3 month plan in place, and often times I delay getting a refill because I still have plenty of product left over! In the long run I think it’s totally worth splurging for. Rodan + Fields has many, many products that target common problems like acne or wrinkles, and if you visit your website you can take their online quiz to see what regimen is best for your skin type!

Formula 10.0.6 Deep Down Detox Ultra Cleansing Mud Mask

Another face product, but I took a chance on this one day in Walgreens and I am so glad I did. I’m usually under the impression that inexpensive products lead to less than impressive results, but this stuff is worth the $6 and then some. By the end of the day my skin is really oily, and I am really bad at resisting the urge to touch my face throughout the day as well, so this product is a big part of my before bed routine. You apply it to a clean face, and let sit for around 5 minutes (I usually brush my teeth during the wait time). It hardens like any other mud mask, and you can feel it actively tightening your pores. When you rinse this stuff off it leaves you skin feeling incredibly soft, smooth, and clean. You truly never realize how much dirt and dead skin cells are on your skin until you try a deep down clean mask. Just be careful you don’t leave it on too long, because it could definitely dry your skin out.

The Body Shop, Pink Grapefruit Seed Oil Body Scrub

Moving on to shower products! The body shop has always been one of my favorite places to shop, mainly due to their use of natural products and amazing scents. I recently picked up this body scrub by them and I am loving it. I try and exfoliate my skin every time I shower, which can be hard on your skin if you don’t have the right products. This stuff is gentle, smells delicious, and leaves my skin super smooth and supple. It is actually a very good size container and a little goes a long way, I can usually get up to 3 months out of one 7.1 oz jar. I used to be prone to back and chest acne from working out and sweating so much, and since using an exfoliating scrub I have seen a drastic improvement to my skins overall clarity and softness.

Almay Smart Shade Anti-Aging Skintone Matching Makeup SPF 20

Again, I don’t normally wear a lot of makeup (typically just eyeliner and mascara) because of how sensitive my skin is, but I recently discovered this stuff and I have been starting to wear it more often because of how great it works! I have a fairly uneven skin tone and I am very fair so I can get blotchy and red very easily. This stuff truly does match to your skins natural color, and as an added bonus it has a built in sunscreen which is huge for me. The Olay daily moisturizer I use has SPF 15, but it can’t hurt to add another layer of protection on top of that. Unlike other foundations I’ve tried it doesn’t dry out and cake by the end of the day, and it blends really well so it goes undetected on my skin. If you’re looking for a new foundation that doesn’t irritate your skin and goes on nice and light, this one is worth trying!

Burt’s Bees Coconut & Pear Hydrating Lip Balm

I didn’t use chapstick anywhere near as much as I should until I got this product in my Christmas stocking (thanks mom!). This stuff smells great, feels great, works great and lasts forever. I had one and kept it in my purse but I love it so much I purchased another one to keep at work. It isn’t sticky like some lip balms can be, and it is the perfect amount of added moisture. When I’ve used chapsticks in the past they actually dried out and chapped my lips as opposed to heal them. I have had zero issues with chapped or cracking lips since I started using this product and it’s been over 4 months! It also has SPF 15 in it (because your lips need protection, too!).

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Liner

I have tried many a liquid liner in my lifetime and this one takes the cake. I like a nice sharp, clean line that stays close to the lash line and every other failed eyeliner had one fatal flaw; the felt tip applicator. Revlon’s ColorStay liner is shorter, and significantly less flimsy than the competition’s, which means it stays perfectly pointy use after use. The liner itself is nice and dark and requires only one or two applications to get a crisp black line. It does not flake or fade over time, and although it is not waterproof I have not had an issue with it running say if, by chance, I were to suddenly burst into tears (with laughter or otherwise). I also have really tiny eyelids, and have had a problem with my eyeliner rubbing off onto my brow bone by the end of the night but this stuff stays perfectly in place and gets an A+ in my books for that.

Nutiva Coconut Oil

Saving the best for last! Coconut oil is probably my #1 favorite product of all time, simply due to the fact that it is so many products in one. I use it in my cooking, for my skin, my hair…just about everything. One of my favorite things to do is mix it with sea salt and create my own scrub. I also love using it as a hair mask in the wintertime when my hair is especially dry. Health wise, coconut oil can help with your cholesterol levels, but it is the improvements I have seen to my skin, nails and hair after using the product that really made me a fan.
