Checking Into: The Dean Dublin

I could not be more excited to be in the city of Dublin and the beautiful country of Ireland for the very first time! It almost feels surreal to be here, but I am so in love with this little corner of the world already. When planning my trip to Dublin I was looking for a place to stay that was a reflection of the atmosphere here; quirky, relaxed, and fun, and The Dean hits all the right notes.

Located in the heart of Dublin, this boutique hotel boasts amazing amenities and even more noteworthy decor. Stepping into the lobby you can immediately feel the coolness factor that this special place looks evoke; dark walls, plush seating, mahogany scented candles, even a neon blue sign above the front desk that reads “I fell in love here” all help to set the tone. With plenty of places to take a seat and relax, the lobby is always a hub of action for guests and visitors making their way in off the street for a coffee, late night cocktail or a bite to eat from the lobby bar.

Upstairs, Sophie’s Restaurant offers panoramic views of Dublin from its vantage point on the fifth floor. With full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, the restaurant brings the same edgy feeling found throughout the building upstairs. The restaurant boasts a wide assortment of dishes and some of the quickest service I’ve ever had. Favorites included the blueberry pancakes with orange butter from their breakfast menu, the crab cake salad for lunch, and any one of their homemade pizza’s fresh from the wood fired oven for dinner, though the prosciutto pizza is an A+! Outside on the terrace, you can cozy up on one of the lounge chairs or beds with a drink and enjoy the view.

The Dean Dublin offers six types of rooms to choose from. From the small and cozy “mod pod” to one of their spacious penthouses complete with it’s own living room and foosball table, each room offers plenty of comfort and personality. We stayed in a “Hi-Fi” room on the fourth floor, with duel aspect views of the city and 26 square meters of space to relax and take it all in.  The Munchie Bar at the door is fully stocked with snacks and room service menus, as well as a fun orange mini fridge that offers plenty of drinks. All of the TV’s have access to Netflix and there is even a Rega RP1 record player and stack of vinyls you can turn up and jam out to.

On every wall in The Dean you can find a quirky piece of artwork created by a local Irish artist, all of which are for sale and help to promote the art scene in the city. The hotel is a major partner for the Irish Museum of Modern Art, but there are nods to keeping things local found all around the hotel. The shampoo & conditioner are offered by the local Grafton Barber, whose shop is just steps away on the infamous Grafton Street featured in Ed Sheeran’s “Galway Girl.”

General consensus? I didn’t want to leave. This hotel was packed with personality and made our stay what it was. Close to all of the major sightseeing spots, the location is hard to beat. While the hotel does disclose that it can get loud at night (The Dean is surrounded by nightclubs), I never had trouble sleeping here. They offer ear plugs for those who may need them, but this place is definitely designed for a younger crowd. The food at Sophie’s was excellent, so good in fact that we decided to stay in more often than we dared to venture out to try new restaurants. Best of all? The price is right. We booked ahead of time through a third party and snagged our room for $170.00 per night for 4 nights, not too shabby when you get all of this along with it!

I plan on returning to Ireland as soon as I can, and this beautiful and fun hotel will be exactly where you will find me spending my nights here in Dublin.

Happy Travels!
